...and a punch for the first of the month! Well, it's officially here - December. Summer has arrived in Oz and the countdown to Christmas is now on. And have I done all the things I had hoped to get done by now?? Nope. Ah well. I once worked with a guy who made lists. He actually collected Moleskine journals and carried one with him and he'd make lists of all the things he had to do each day and get great joy from crossing things off his list and if he didn't do something that day then he added the undone item to the next day's list and so on. At first I really admired this and I have always loved Moleskine journals. I still can admire his list making but it's not for me I don't think. I thought about doing it and still haven't done it and really, if I can't get the whole thing started then I wouldn't really be any good at actually writing a list each day and following it through!! But, December is certainly the month for list making. I have a Christamas card list...somewhere...and I started a gift list, which is somewhere too. I am sounding quite disorganised but I do know where everything important is... and I have started my Christmas crafting...
These little guys are off with some friends on a journey I will explain later and this is the first of a what will hopefully be many handmade Christmas gifts...
(It's a bag holder to store plastic shopping bags in to re-use - it's also useful for people who have pooches, to store their poo bags in... and it is very simple to make!).
And, because I mentioned lists, I have been tagged...
By Stacey from Three Red Trees who makes the most adorable sock pups I have ever seen and who does wonderful work for animals. Here are the rules:
1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write six random things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them.
5. Let each person know they have been tagged and leave a comment on their blog. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.
So here are the random things about me:
1. I want to say Happy Thanksgiving (belated) to everyone who celebrated it and I wish we had it in Australia cos it sounds like a lovely event. I love traditions and family gatherings and once in my life I am determined to experience a white Christmas.
2. I really dislike disorganisation. I beat myself up about any disorganisation in my life and I can't stand when other people are disorganised. I am learning to enjoy it however as I don't want to be uptight throughout my entire life and really, life is short so don't sweat the small stuff and all that (this is what I try telling myself).
3. I prefer short posts to long posts on blogs cos I don't have time to read everything I would like to. Unfortunately this is looking like a long post. If you have got to this point, yay!
4. I am the oldest of six siblings. My parents are divorced and re-married and both have more kids, who I grew up with. Calling my siblings "half-sisters" or "half-brothers" makes me extremely uncomfortable and I love them all, not half of them!
5. Gees, six random things is hard! I am secretly obsessed with phrases and when I hear one I instantly think about googling it.. .
Originating from old England times when people thought that witches existed. People thought that salt would make a witch weak, so the pinch part is pinching of the salt, and the punch part was to banish the witch. The witch would be weak from the salt so the punch was to banish her. There are many customs and traditions surrounding the use of this phrase, in particular some people hold that it should only be used before midday on the first of the month, though others disagree. A common extension of this phrase is to add "and no returns" to the end of the phrase, which should prohibit the person to whom the phrase is said from responding with either "a kick and a flick for being so quick" or "a flick in the eye for being so sly". If the recipient of the pinching and punching says "white rabbits" before the perpetrator can finish this sentence then they are permitted to administer a punch instead. (Source: Wiktionary)
6. I love my sewing machine and my little car and when I have finished sewing for the day or when I park my car, I give them each a little pat and thank them (now that is random!!!)
Now, I tag the people who left a comment on my last post!
I have been thinking about thanking all the people who left a happy birthday message for me in my last post while writing this post and I wanted to say thank you for the well wishes for my Dad (who had another operation and is now recovering) and thank you too for all the lovely words about my market stall. I am gearing up for another one shortly and will post about that soon. If you have come to this blog looking to buy any of my toys, just email me and let me know. I will be starting up an Etsy store in January (yup - after Christmas but let me know if you wanted something before Christmas).
Happy December!
